I really don’t know what say at this point. I probably should wait it to dry and then continue working with thin layers. I realized there’s still a lot of clumsy spots – some pretentiously abstract expressionist layers. But then again I added some rough brushstrokes for brutality and earth. It’s now a lot like open wound this painting and I want to enchance that appearance. But I want to make the wound more infected.
I was also working with some installation stuff. Listened to The Pharcyde and it’s still stuck in my head. And gotta say the latest album of The Dillinger Escape Plan, “Ire Works”, really makes my blood flow.
I managed to get to the workroom during the christmas holidays.
Now as the thick layers of paint were mostly dry I was capable to make the detail layerings and tiny color details I wanted. Enchanged certain elements. Also I made thin varnish layer with parisian blue over “the sky” area so that the bright highlights will have more glow and impact. Suprisingly, I realized that there isn’t too much work anymore with this one. Lots of layering and details and color correction but nothing drastic. It’s pretty much downhill from now on.
Next I’ll be buying some large scale MDF-board and the next ones will be on their way.
Prod pictures on all three currently in production
Published December 16, 2007 WORKPOSTS Leave a CommentThe towers: strengthened the form in the middle ground with cold red circular brush strokes. It’s kind of sucking form – like whirlpool of emptying bathtub. The horizon at the middle had a little bit of recheck – still not satisfied with it. Added some pushing force to the “conish” spot colored form that is pretty dominating in the right side. I need to unfy it more with the dirtiness of the blue-brown-red ground shapes. Have to break those too bright spot colours. Make it more striking. Now it’s just too bland. But I have to keep (and enchance) the luminosity in the tip of the towers. Sky will be darker, painted with thin opaques of crimson red and paris blue with more than 50% of varnish. So there you have it. At last decent workbook entry.
And here’s the other untitled one. Killed the overused bright colours.Need some kind of breakthrough for this one. The sky must be layered. And the ground. Problem is that I really can’t yet do that because of some bright colours are STILL wet.
And this Untitled got a name. For now it’s called: “It lights up when irritated”
Reference to odd and mysterious deep-sea creatures. Their bioluminous organs activate when irritated or in stress.
Lots of layering to do. Same problem as with the previous one: I’ve used so thick impastos that spite of waiting almost a week, the bright colours are still partly wet.
I had very good day at the office last day. I got into serious state of WORK DELIRIUM in which everything you used to be worried about lose their importance.
You need the delirium for 7+ straight hours of intensive work (not to be mixed with twelve-hour- hanging-out-at-the-workroom type of “working”). Or drugs. And I don’t use drugs.
Maybe it was the coffee or all the food I ate last day. Or the healthy narcissism I have that makes me believe in what I do. Even if I feel like a shit otherwise.
