Artist of the week

Charles Juhasz-Alvarado

I’ve been really trying to find more info on this gentleman from Peru. He’s quite famous but still it’s hard to find images of his works anywhere.

His works are at times little bit macho sculptural stuff (very good) and at times little bit like my friend Juhana Moisander’s works if he’d have sillier humor.

Installation pics

I used the peat and the moss I earlier removed from the forest. I have tormented the ground matter by storing it in plastic bags over an month and its partly very decayed.

I tried to create an whole “earth square”. The effort to make it thorough seemed hopeless.

The most interesting thing was this “uncanny” feeling when handling live earth matter in indoor environment. It all seemed strangely disgusting.

Then I took some close-up macro pictures which turned out specially heavy.

Giles Lyon

I shouldn’t like this fucker but I do. First of all: it’s that disgusting acrylic paint shit all the truly shitty , lazy painters use (because ‘it’s convinient as it dries so fast!‘). AND it looks just like that! But perhaps that’s the thing: it works because it’s frank in it’s own bright plasticness. And also Lyon is pretty fucking good painter.

Unshameful, upfront kick-in-your-face stuff.

2. Attracts animals, insects and freaks
3. Looks nasty
4. Feels nasty

Note: the costume must be without any other clothing

Smoking Granny

1. Get yourself an cigarette smoking old lady
2. Make her smoke cigarettes in several public places

Following places for example:

• Bus-stops
• Youth hostel fronts
• Swimming hall fronts
• Bar fronts
• Middle of the pathway
• Shopping centre smoking areas
• Record store fronts
• Library fronts

These will not do:

• Regular restaurants
• Sex shop fronts

Notes:

• The elderly lady must not look like an alcoholic
• The smoking must be intensive
• The smoke cloud around her must be thick

Exploding House

1. Aquire an regular-sized house
2. Load it up with TNT-dynamite (other explosives will do as well, f. ex. SCUD-missiles)
3. Blow that house up
4. Rebuild the house using the blown up debris
5. Go to part 2

Unpractical party costumes – series

Part 1 : ” Tree-trunk though the chest”  – costume

• Partygoer will wear tree trunk with suspenders so that it seems as it’s going thourgh his chest
• Reasons of unpracticality:

1. Requires unnecessary amount of space
2. You can’t really have face-to face conversations
3. Suspenders will start to hurt your head and shoulders really soon
4. Elevator-rides, public transport and restaurants / bars are out oy question while wearing this costume
